Before buying any policy, try to read the terms and conditions of the coverage provided by the policy. Whatever kind of coverage you take, make sure that it is backed up by a reputable insurance company and for tips try to talk to your friends who have already bought travel insurance.

Deduction: This is the amount you have to pay from your own pocket before the insurance company pays for any claim by you.
(e.g) If your hospitalization expense is $10,000 and if deduction is $2000, then $8000 will be paid by the insurance company and $2000 has to be paid by you.

Co-Insurance: This is the amount you have to pay from your own pocket before the insurance company pays for any claim by you.
(e.g) If your hospitalization expense is $20,000 and if your co-insurance is 70:30, then $14,000 will be paid by the insurance and $6,000 has to be paid by you.

You have to check if pre-existing conditions are covered by your insurance.

Before signing in insurance papers, try to find out who will pay hospitalization expenses. In some cases, you may need to pay the hospitalization bill immediately to hospital and get the claim later from your insurance company or insurance company may directly pay the amount to hospital.
