History of Liberty Statue:

Statue of Liberty, commonly referred to as Lady Liberty, attracts millions and millions of tourists each year and it is one of the nation's most beloved landmark. Liberty Statue was presented by the people of France to the people of Unites States as a gift of International Frienship between two countries in the year 1886. Statue was a wonderful creation from the famous french sculptor, Frederic Auguste Bartholdi and its believed that Charlotte Bartholdi, the sculptor's mother was the model for the Liberty Statue's face.

Facts:

The original title given to Statue of Liberty was "Liberty Enlightening the World".

Liberty stands at about a height of 151 feet and 1 inch tall. (From base to Torch). The height from the ground to the tip of the torch is 305 feet and 1 inch.

Statue of Liberty weighs about 225 tons. The weight of copper used was 179,200 pounds and steel being 250,000 pounds.

The seven rays in the Statue's crown represents the seven seas and the seven continents in the world. The 25 windows found in the Statue's crown symbolizes gemstones found on the earth. The inscription on the tablet, found on the left hand of the Statue states "July 4th, 1776" in Roman Numerals, symbolizes the America's Independence Day from Britain.

In order to go to Liberty Island and visit the Statue of Liberty, you need to take up a ferry ride either from Battery Park of Manhatten or from Liberty State Park in New Jersey. All these ferry trips include a trip to nearby Ellis Island where the historical Immigration Museum resides, which once served as the immigration clearence center for many foreign immigrants in order to allow them into USA.
